Child street hawking is a common sight on the street of most states in Nigeria and also several African cities. You will see children aged as young as four selling products ranging from food to other items on trays balanced on their heads running in between cars in slow-moving traffic. Street hawking has huge implications for children’s physical and emotional well-being. It exposes them to sexual abuse, physical exhaustion, vehicle accidents, drug and substance abuse, prostitution and even death. In recent years, this situation has been on the rise as a result of spiralling poverty and the worsening economic situation
.
Off The Street was started in the year 2018 as an initiative to address this practice. We aim to get these children off the street back into education or vocational training through sponsoring, donations and fund raising. It is our desire to make sure that no child is left behind but giving the opportunity to thrive and fulfil their full potentials. Our desire is to alleviate poverty and eradicate illiteracy. Our focus is mainly on single parent families and orphans.
We support families with:
- Tuition fees
- Educational resources – school uniform, shoes, bags, books and lunch
- Vocational training
- Financial aid for parents to boost or start a trade
With your support we can help as many children as possible get off the street into education. Many are waiting to be supported.
